Li’l Factory is open to submissions, in particular (and currently only) short stories in the science fiction genre and novels in the fantasy genre. Today, the expectation is that all Li'l Factory books will be in English.
We love stories that are too niche, too poetic, or simply too strange for traditional publishers.
SciFi short stories should be around 10000-20000 words. In terms of style, Iain M. Banks, Peter Watts, and M. John Harrison are good benchmarks.
Fantasy novels should be around 80000-100000 words. In terms of style, Philip Pullman, Alice in Wonderland, and Susanna Clarke are relevant examples, but feel free to go even weirder!
For additional taste references the list is very long, but to give you a brief idea, here's a mix of things that we find fascinating: Bladerunner, Severance, Twin Peaks, Prog Rock, dreaming, The Sundays, Opeth, The Innocence Mission, Quantum physics, the Space Race, Moebius, Tarot cards, Totoro, Lorenzo Mattotti, Brutalism, Animism, Dadaism, Cubism, Suprematism, Bauhaus, nature, Joy Division, Jon Bauer, Fumito Ueda, and sometimes beauty just for beauty's own sake. Everything doesn't need to be rational.
If you want to submit your story, please send circa 5000 words and we’ll let you know if we're curious about the project.
E-mail your document (PDFs preferred) to submissions@lilfac.com
We look forward to hearing from you, and also, if you have writer-friends that might be interested in Li'l Factory, please let them know about us!
